Fashion industry: history and stages of development

The history of fashion is very rich and entertaining: even in ancient times, they already invented various styles of clothing, created new materials, added new elements to the hair, accessories, ornaments around the neck, hands, ears. Undoubtedly, fashion is more interested in the beautiful half of humanity, but men do not leave it far. Therefore, the range of fashion products is expanding every year, and the fashion industry has worked and will continue to work for humanity.

Fashion as a phenomenon

It is known that fashion is among the socialphenomena, because it is aimed at satisfying the aesthetic demands of society. And fashionable things, in turn, by themselves demonstrate the social position of their owner.

Modus as a phenomenon explained at the beginningthe twentieth century, when the term "seepage" appeared. According to American Thorstein Veblen and German Georg Simmel, the fashion industry originally had as its goal to isolate the elite from the general mass, which always tries to be different from ordinary people. Therefore, all new trends appear among the upper class, and the middle and lower strata of society try to imitate the elite stratum and adopt any innovations from it. In other words, fashion trends "leak" from the top down and cease to be novelties, passing into the category of "consumer goods". Then again, it is necessary to create something new and fashionable, so that the elite still stands out. There is a process of the so-called "cycle of prestigious consumption," which does not stop.

Modern fashion

To date, class strata in thethe society has practically worn off, but the purpose of fashion has remained the same - to emphasize the person's belonging to this or that social group. The modern fashion industry creates things such as youth fashion, street, office, etc. At the same time, each person is able to choose their own personal clothing, which is a way of self-expression. Dressing fashionably and stylishly, you can stand out from the crowd and demonstrate to others the presence of taste and individuality.

Proceeding from this, the conclusion arises that to fashionable things belong only those that are exposed for show, are demonstrated.

Fashionable goods

Of the total number of industrial goods, the fashion industry contains only those that are considered fashionable and satisfy the individual's personal needs. These include:

  • clothes,
  • personal accessories (handbags, hats, wristwatches, belts, stockings, gloves, etc.)
  • cosmetics and perfumery,
  • jewelry (jewelry and bijouterie),
  • goods for the house (dishes, bedding, linen, carpets).

The production of all of the above isa certain sector of the economy - the so-called "fashion industry". This sector includes the manufacture and sale of goods. Several branches of light industry are involved, among which there is a textile, hairdresser, perfume, and model business. As statistics show, over time the number of fashionable products is gradually expanding.

Trends in the fashion world

If previously only fashionable items were for the beautiful half of humanity, then in the twentieth century this trend was refracted, and fashion touched men too.

Around the same time, the fashion industryhas expanded the range of fashion products due to the fact that the way of life has changed and become public. For example, our great-grandmothers and grandmothers did not attach much importance to laundry, as did the reception of food. Now most of us buy food and laundry products in the store. As a result, almost all elements of personal consumption, including drinks, cars, motorcycles, furniture, stationery, etc., are now classified as fashionable goods.

Stages of development of fashion industry

There are several stages of development thatpassed the fashion industry. Until the end of the nineteenth century, this direction did not exist, although the concept of fashion was. Since the 1890s, manufacturers of clothing and accessories have started their activities, in the process of which small business is turning into a real large-scale production. Even fashion magazines were published, where it was a question of trend things that are customary to wear in an elite society.

manufacture of fashionable clothes

In the 50s of the last century, themass consumption, and therefore, it was required to predict fashion phenomena. There were firms that specialized in analyzing novelties and trends in the fashion world. Large-scale production of fashionable clothes put forward its demands - to make decisions on mass purchases, issues, etc. As a result, manufacturers of ready-made things depended not only on the "fancies" of fashion designers, but also on the manufacturers of raw materials. Later, a system for forecasting trends appeared.

Fashion Branches

Since the 60s of the twentieth century there have beenserious changes - fashion (fashion) divided into two branches: "haute couture" and "pret-a-porter". During this period, such fashion designers as Christian Dior, Hubert Zivanshi, Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel and others became world famous.

In the 1990s, the term"Pluralism", meaning the absence of a single style and commitment to fragmentation into a number of different areas. The speed with which new items appear is changing. Simultaneously, the fashion "rejuvenates," ie, the opportunity to buy fashionable things appeared not only among rich people, but also among ordinary youth. Stylists no longer have a dominant influence on fashion, more prominent brands are engaged in propaganda.

fashion fashion

It should be noted that if before the end of the 20th centurythe fashion industry affected exclusively Europe, then in the 21st century fashion became global, and designers from different countries offer their ideas. Today, there is already a huge influence of eastern cultures, and this is reflected in consumer goods.
